The end of the Leather Back Turtle season gives us the opportunity to wait eagerly to see their offspring hatch out in our corral. This year we found 24 Leather Back Turtle nests, which surpassed our expectations, as this species has a two year cycle lay period and last year we were amazed to collect 63 nests!

The increasing numbers give us hope that the Leather Back Turtle population is increasing locally and we expect that by the end of this year to have collected over 100 Leather Back nests.

In general at the Conservation camp there is a lot of work to do. There are developments in the infrastructure of the camp, we are working on some new buildings and we have to focus on preparing our equipment to be ready for the Olive Ridley high season, our aim is to surpass the 1,967 nests we collected last year.

To accomplish the work we depend upon the strong support and help that our volunteers give us.

We are also working on setting up new agreements between Projects Abroad and the local agencies that support the conservation projects in the State of Colima. We are a step ahead in creating an environmental consciousness in the local community and have a strong presence in the area.
